Payoneer in Sri Lanka, and when a US LLC is better

What Payoneer is good for

Payoneer gives you account details to receive money in US dollars and other currencies, and it connects directly to marketplaces. If most of your income comes from Upwork, Fiverr, Amazon or a similar platform, Payoneer is often the simplest way to get it out.

It isn’t a way to accept card payments from your own customers on your own website. Payoneer pays out what platforms and clients send you; it doesn’t replace Stripe.

Can you open a Payoneer account from Sri Lanka?

This is the uncertain part in 2026. Payoneer doesn’t publish a list of countries open to new accounts, and Sri Lankan freelancers report different experiences. Some say new sign-ups work; others say they were turned away. Existing accounts keep working.

The reliable check is the sign-up form itself: start an application with your Sri Lankan details and see whether Payoneer accepts it. Don’t give clients Payoneer details until your account is approved.

Getting money out in Sri Lanka

You have two routes.

To eZ Cash, in rupees. Payoneer’s own guide, updated in September 2026, shows how to link your account to the eZ Cash app:

1. In the eZ Cash app, open Remittance and choose to link Payoneer.
2. Verify with your eZ Cash number and PIN, then log in to Payoneer to authorise it.
3. To withdraw, open Remittance, choose Payoneer and enter the amount in US dollars. eZ Cash credits you in rupees.

To your bank. You can add a Sri Lankan bank account in Payoneer and withdraw to it.

Fees depend on how you were paid and how you withdraw, and Payoneer changes them from time to time. Check Payoneer’s fee page for your account before you rely on a number.

Payoneer, Wise or a US LLC?

Many founders use more than one: Payoneer for marketplace income, and a US LLC with Stripe for their own website. With a US LLC, Wise is usually the cheapest way to move dollars home: it sends to any Sri Lankan bank account at the mid-market rate.
